January Outfits II
A new COS wool coat & vintage Bottega Veneta hobo to carry me through winter.
As we barrel towards my least favorite time of year, I’m self-medicating with an addition to my outerwear wardrobe. After my last newsletter on outerwear, I finally landed on a long, black wool coat from COS over the holidays. Meanwhile, I’ve been looking for a vintage Bottega Veneta intrecciato hobo for months. Intellectually, I know that I probably shouldn’t wear my Chanel PVC tote as constantly as I do—for starters, the bag was made in 1997 and is showing its age, but also, it doesn’t feel right to use during the winter. I finally found the exact Bottega Veneta bag I was after on ThredUp (consider this your sign to not forget about ThredUp), and it was considerably marked down. Here’s what I’m wearing this month…
OUTFIT 1
FEEL studios white genuine jean
Gil Rodriguez ‘bellevue’ longsleeve tshirt
extreme cashmere n°213 ‘everything’ shrug
Maison Margiela tabi slingbacks
Vintage 90s Banana Republic leather bag
Where I’d wear it: To dinner, drinks, etc.
OUTFIT 2
Dries Van Noten indigo jeans: The dropping prices on SSENSE nudged me towards purchasing a pair of Dries Van Noten indigo jeans (which have now shot back up to full price). These are my first denim purchase that’s not vintage Levis nor FEEL studios in perhaps a decade. They’re super high-waisted, which I enjoy as a long-torsoed person, and arrived with an insane 35” inseam (which I hemmed).
Martine Rose striped wrap shirt (no longer available)
E Porselli flats via Vestiaire Collective: Similar pair here.
Vintage 90s Banana Republic leather bag
Where I’d wear it: I’ll wear it anywhere this winter, with a long wool coat on top.
OUTFIT 3
Levi’s baggy dad corduroy pants
Line by K ‘elton’ sweatshirt: Old and no longer available, but I found one on TRR here.
Arq ‘wes’ socks
E Porselli flats via Vestiaire Collective
Vintage Chanel PVC tote: Mine is in desperate need of repair, I plan to take her to the doctor this month. There is still one available via TRR.
Gil Rodriguez stretch headband
Where I’d wear it: I wore this to school drop off, followed by a day of errands. A very good (and very comfortable) winter daytime outfit!
OUTFIT 4
Tory Burch color block zip-front jersey top
Vintage 2000s Miu Miu denim skirt
Maryam Nassir Zadeh Pablo belt
Vintage 90s Banana Republic leather bag
Tory Burch ‘tubo’ knee boots (no longer available)
Where I’d wear it: I’ll wear this (most likely with sheer espresso tights underneath) to a few work events and meetings I have this month.
OUTFIT 5
Levi’s baggy dad corduroy pants
Nu Swim organic cotton shell tank: I’m wearing it in brown, which is sadly an older colorway and no longer available.
Maryam Nassir Zadeh Pablo belt
Gucci horsebit loafers via The RealReal: Searching “gucci horsebit lug sole” will bring up similar options—here is my exact pair via eBay in a US 9, a US 10, and brown pairs in a US 7.5 and US 6.5.
Paloma Wool scarf: Old, but here’s something similar.
Vintage Bottega Veneta intrecciato large hobo via ThredUp: If you’re in the market, the medium sized version of my bag is available on 1st Dibs. I also love this green (not intrecciato) hobo via TRR.
Where I’d wear it: This is supremely comfortable, I’d wear it almost anywhere.
OUTFIT 6
Dries Van Noten indigo jeans
Jacquemus ‘l’amour d'un gitan’ striped shirt: I bought this in 2017 but haven’t worn it in years—something told me to hold onto it and I’m happy to reintroduce it into my wardrobe again. Mine is lightly striped, but I found it in white in sizes 36 FR and 38 FR, plus a similar shirt on Vestiaire Collective
Maison Margiela tabi slingbacks
Vintage 90s Banana Republic leather bag
Where I’d wear it: I’ll wear this to dinner with friends this month.

Molly, what are your thoughts on the COS coat? Is it warm enough for an East coast winter? And will it stand the rest of time? The look is just what I’ve been searching for.
