This month, L.A.-based designer Brooke Callahan is sharing her late-summer outfits. Founder of the eponymous clothing and accessories line, Brooke designs cotton poplin tops, bottoms, and dresses in deceptively simple hues. Each color is meticulously researched and pairs seamlessly with virtually every other shade in the line, a feat I truly do not understand.
I wore Brooke’s glass flower pendant belt in my very first newsletter and her new tie shorts in my most recent (you may recall when I got a pair of her red tie pants and wore them relentlessly last fall)—suffice to say I’m a fan! Unsurprisingly, Brooke lives in her designs paired with vintage finds and uncomplicated hiking sandals. Here’s what Brooke is wearing this month…
OUTFIT 1
Vintage white t-shirt
A.P.C trousers (no longer available): Similar here!
Chacos ‘Z/Cloud 2’ sandals
Brooke Callahan cross bag
Where I’d wear it: This is absolutely my current hyperfixation outfit, I love a monochromatic look. I got this perfect vintage white tee a few weeks ago at Redeemer in Silverlake, and it is the only thing I want to wear—I really love it with some big cotton trousers. I’m also ADDICTED to my Chacos. I remember “gorpcore” was a big trend like three or four years ago, and I guess I missed it, but now I fully subscribe.
OUTFIT 2
Brooke Callahan guest dress
Havaianas top flip flop
Where I’d wear it: I’ve been loving all my pink BC pieces lately, and this cut is super flattering and easy to wear. I’m headed to NYC and Long Island next week and plan on wearing this from the beach straight to dinner.
OUTFIT 3
Brooke Callahan tie pants
Vintage orange tank via Maj Kiosk
Havaianas top flip flop
Purple tote via Gaijin
Where I’d wear it: No surprise, I wear tie pants about six out of seven days a week. I work from home, and they lend themselves so well to that lifestyle (even though you can TOTALLY dress up for an office!!!!!!). I have a full collection of colorful tanks from one of my favorite vintage stores, Maj Kiosk, that I love to pair with my pieces. When I’m running errands, I usually bring my favorite purple canvas tote I picked up at a Gaijin, a Paris favorite, last month—there’s nothing cooler to me than a pop of PURPLE!
OUTFIT 4
Vintage Chantal Thomass dress
Vintage Levi’s: Very good similar vintage option here (30x30).
Brooke Callahan cross bag
Where I’d wear it: This outfit is kind of psycho but I love it. I got the dress at my favorite ever vintage shop in Paris. Thx God I’m a VIP, and I weirdly love it over jeans. Can’t go wrong by adding some Chacos and a Criss Cross bag!
OUTFIT 5
Brooke Callahan cuff top
Vintage Levi’s
Chacos ‘Z/Cloud 2’ sandals
Where I’d wear it: In six months, I will probably regret this jeans + chacos combo I’ve been wearing 3x a week, but I love it now!! I only ever wear slightly stonewashed denim, which I feel pairs super well with bright colors. Planning on wearing this to see Bob Dylan at the Hollywood Bowl in a few days.
OUTFIT 6
Vintage Yohji Yamamoto dress
Maryam Nassir Zadeh ‘una’ sandal, vintage YSL heels, or Vintage Miu Miu sandal: You can find a red version of Brooke’s Miu Miu sandals in a 5.5 here and an 8 in brown here (the price discrepancy…).
Where I’d wear it: I’m headed to a wedding on Long Island in mid-August and think I will wear this perfect Yohji dress I bought at Scout this past weekend. I’m terrible with accessories and haven’t decided on shoes (or a bag, for that matter), but I’ve narrowed it down to three options: my favorite (and comfortable) MNZ heel, a great YSL find in the most perfect blue (via The RealReal), or a quirky pair of Miu Miu flats.
That’s it for this month—thank you for being here and I’ll see you soon. 💌
