This month, author of
, Marjon Carlos, is sharing her go-to spring outfits as of late. Marjon is a journalist, podcast host, and public speaker, living and working in New York. Her writing has appeared on the websites and pages of Vogue, Vanity Fair, i-D, Essence, and much more. I’ve followed Marjon and subscribed to her newsletter for some time, and have always admired her approach to styling—she deftly mixes high fashion with vintage pieces in a way that feels cool and effortless. Here’s what Marjon is wearing this month…OUTFIT 1
Naomi Sharon “Obsidian” tour tee
Adidas ‘firebird’ track pants
Vince ‘Doris’ loafers
Axel Arigato 'globe’ leather trench: No longer available, but here is the cotton “summer” version, and a similar leather trench via Vestiaire Collective.
Luar ‘Ana’ tote
Where I wore it: I wore this outfit for dinner and a movie with my boyfriend recently. He literally wears Adidas tracksuits every day and was freaking out that I was wearing these Firebird wide leg pants. I told him all the girlies were into them now and he said we were very, very late lol. I saw Naomi Sharon perform last week in Brooklyn on my birthday and bought one of her tees after the show. She was brilliant and I love her merch, so I threw it on top. Instead of doing a sneaker, I added my Vince loafers that I have worn into the ground this season. They really go with everything. Despite it being spring, the weather is all over the place, so I topped it off with my Axel Arigato leather jacket.
OUTFIT 2
Vintage rugby polo: Try this vintage Ralph Lauren shirt (men’s L), Lands’ End (men’s M), or this beige-red striped Stussy rugby shirt (men’s S).
Goldsign ‘the haven’ low-rise boyfriend jeans
Vince ‘Doris’ loafers
Vintage leather blazer: Similar jacket by Sprung Frères (US 8) and an unbranded vintage jacket in the same size here.
Where I wore it: This is my everyday look. When I’m not all done up for events, I am super lowkey and very tomboyish, tbh. So, I would wear this while working at home or at SAA, my new hub. I have to feel super comfortable to get down to my work. I also started putting this vintage leather jacket back in rotation after it was ignored in my closet for years. I bought it in a Dallas, Texas vintage shop and it has the best big shoulder shape.
OUTFIT 3
Vintage rugby polo
Attico ‘fern’ pants
Vince ‘Doris’ loafers
Axel Arigato leather trench
Where I wore it: I would probably wear this out for dinner and drinks with my bestie. I remember when I bought these pants right after seeing Rihanna in them. They are so rugged but chic, so you can literally dress them up or down. I like adding the sportier rugby polo and making it more city-focused with my loafers and trench. It adds a nice tension.
OUTFIT 4
Baruch College sweatshirt
Aritiza ‘process’ denim pleated skirt
Nike x Martine Rose Shox R4 Mule ‘Safety Orange’ sneakers: Only a size 10.5 remains on Farfetch, but I did find a few additional pairs available via resale sites (US 10, US 6.5, and a few pairs ranging from US 5-6.5 here)
Where I wore it: I bought these Martine Rose sneakers in the fall and never wore them for some odd reason. I thought I was “too old” or something silly like that. But I want to break them in this spring and summer. They are so fab and comfortable. I liked the idea of adding a very sweet pleated skirt with it for an off-kilter preppy look. I wore uniforms all my life and couldn’t stand the sight of them after I went to college, but look at me now… I snagged the sweatshirt from Baruch College’s gift shop last year after doing a talk there. I would probably wear this to run errands, for a meeting, or drinks with a girlfriend.
OUTFIT 5
Rosie Assoulin ‘Gingham Blazer Hippy Midi Dress’ (no longer available)
Vince ‘Doris’ loafers
Where I wore it: This is for those optimistically warm days in NY! This dress has such a Stepford Wives energy to it, so I like breaking that up with a chunky loafer and a bare ankle. I would love to wear it to a very chic industry cocktail hour that is beginning to pop up as the weather gets better.
OUTFIT 6
Vintage Mugler linen blazer
The Row leather almond toe pumps
Where I wore it: This is a very sexy, cool combo that I would wear to a play or a very special night out on the town. I picked up this vintage linen Mugler jacket last fall and found it worked perfectly with these COS linen pants I already owned. It gives me very strong 80s vibes. Then I would add my The Row leather pumps that I never wore this fall like an idiot. How amazing are they?!

Love Marjon and the outfits! I love #6 the blazer is so structural but also easy going b/c of the linen and the flow of the pants!
